Wine Tasting Pocketbook

How can we intuitively taste wine?

As a personal project, I combined my interest in wine with design by building a printable and foldable pocketbook that guides a user through the classic CMS tasting grid

Timeline: 1 Week | Tools: Indesign

Project Overview

Opportunity Space

The official "Deductive Tasting Format" from the Court of Master Sommeliers is a complex and seemingly impenetrable document that most oenophiles will come across. Instead of having a full piece of paper, there must be a better way to walk a wine drinker through the deductive tasting format.

Initial Sketches

Using the information found throughout various wine textbooks, I mapped the information onto an intuitive visual design that follows a wine drinker’s journey. The overarching goal was to ensure that any level of wine drinker could follow along and articulate what they were seeing, smelling, and tasting.

Final Designs

I built out a prototype that would be used for user testing. The design is printable and foldable, so a user can take it anywhere to quickly work through the CMS deductive tasting grid step-by-step.
